Prairie Beach participants register, pick up
goodies and schedule of events. Registration fee is a free will
donation.
8:30 - 2:00
Being There Coffee House
Being There
Coffee House of Altoona will be on hand to sell coffee bar items
and breakfast goodies. Check them out on the web at
http://www.beingtherecoffee.com/ . Being There Coffee House will
also have box lunches to order throughout the morning to be delivered
back at the park for lunch.
9:00 - 9:30
Welcome/Blessing of the Hounds
Jorene King, President of Heartland Greyhound Adoption, will give a
welcome and introduction of the schedule of events. We will then pause
for a blessing of the hounds from Jean Beckwith, chaplain at
Mercy
Hospital in Des Moines.
9:00 - 3:30
Raffle and Auction Items on display, there will be both a live and
silent auction. Come view the array of items that have generously
donated.
9:00 – 5:00

Photo
Contest
Voting
Prairie
Beach
quests are invited to send or bring photos along with them for our
contest. Prizes will be given out for the different categories:
10:00 - 3:00

Beach
participants can have family portraits taken with their hounds! Photos
will be taken by Deugan Photo of Des Moines,
www.deuganphoto.com. They
will do onsite 6x8 prints for $10 each and
then you can link to their photo printer for additional prints at the
prices listed online.
10:00 - 10:30
Sylvia's Costume Contest
Greyhounds and their owners show off their finest in costumes for the
judges. Participants are asked to be prepared to give or have read an
explanation of their attire.
10:30 - 10:45
Golden Oldies
Everyone is invited to participate and honor the oldest Greyhounds at Prairie Beach!
-Golden Oldie- racing silks will be awarded to the oldest male and
female hounds in attendance at the event.
10:45-‘til the measuring is done
Tail Competition
For something new this year, we will also have a contest for both the
longest and shortest tail competition. Tail extensions will be
disqualified. Winners will be announced at lunch.
11:00 - 12:00 Greyhound
Games
Three different games will be offered to take
part in. Do one or do them all.

For hounds with fast tongues the Peanut Butter Eating contest.
·
Back by popular demand, Greyhound Bowling--a must for those bulldozer
hounds.
·
Try a team sport with the Donut and Dog Bone Eating contest. Donut for
the owner and dog bone for the greyhound, both must eat without hands
while their treat is suspended on a string. Which team will be
fastest?

Doggie Massage
Amy Barnett a licensed massage therapist will talk on the benefits of
pet massage.
12:00 - 1:00
Keeping Your Strength Up
Being There Coffee House will be taking orders through out the morning
for box lunches will be delivered back to the park for lunch.
If you want something
different, there are several restaurants in
Altoona. Ask a
Prairie Beach volunteer for options.
1:00-1:30
Round 1 of the raffle prizes will
be called.
1:30 - 2:00
Keynote Speaker
Brian Smith is a member of the
Iowa Greyhound Association, owns a greyhound farm in Central Iowa and
is part owner of Riverbluff Kennel at Bluffs Run Greyhound Park. Brian
has agreed to share with us a greyhound’s life at the farm.
2:30 - 3:15
Group Walk
Gather together to stretch your legs. A planned walk
in the neighborhood surrounding the park will give you a chance to
move around a bit.

Announcement of the
Photo Contest Winners
3:30 - 5:00
2009 Prairie Beach Auction & Raffle (at the shelter house)
Silent Auction item bidding will end at 3:30 sharp by Roseanne's
time piece. Prairie Beach participants will get the chance to
bid on some premium items during our live auction. Items must be
claimed and paid for at the end of the Auction.
